Andrea Weiss is a licensed clinical psychologist in clinical practice since 1981. She specializes in working with older adolescents and adults, in individual and couples therapy. Andrea tailors her approach to the specific concerns and needs of each client. She integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and interpersonal approaches to psychotherapy. Andrea is supportive, yet challenging, and encourages active participation and collaboration from her clients. With an open and curious approach, she creates safety for her clients to share their deepest concerns and hopes. Andrea holds a strong belief in helping her clients to live according to their values and make decisions based on what is important to them.
Andrea Weiss has extensive experience counseling people who suffer from depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, troubled relationships, sexuality and aging. As a therapist trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Andrea helps her clients to examine the beliefs they have about themselves and those close to them. She uses this approach for clients who have suffered from trauma. She has volunteered her services to veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Andrea received her BA degree from Harvard University and her Ph.D. in psychology from Temple University. She has a background in higher education, having taught psychology and psychotherapy at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and published papers on adoption issues, when she worked as a professor of psychology at Drexel University. Andrea is a fellow of the Maryland Psychological Association and a member of the American Psychological Association. Andrea Weiss has been in practice with Guttman and Pearl Associates for more than 25 years.
